This was a wedding with a difference. I have to be honest when Carys told me the plans for the Harry Potter/Star Wars themed wedding I was more than a little dubious. I could not have been more wrong. On May 4th, as if it could be on any other day of the year, I arrived to a field and found a beautifully decorated marquee. All the table centrepieces were handmade by Carys, she’d even made a sorting hat!
Carys not only made the decorations for the tables, she also made the bouquets and button holes. When I say made, I don’t mean arranged some flowers, I mean painstakingly made, petal by petal every flower for each of the bouquets and button holes. The material she used? Pages of Harry Potter and star wars books! There was a nod to both Star Wars and Harry Potter in Carys’s bouquet, the stem of which was a light sabre.
Each place setting had a handmade wand and chocolate frog. Sadly Carys’s grandfather has recently passed away; his wand took pride of place on the top table. Although he wasn’t present on the day he was very much present in the minds of the guests and, most especially, in the minds of Carys and her mum.
While there were moments of sadness on this day the overwhelming feeling was one of joy and fun. The bride and groom even had a ride in the back of a vintage tuck! It was a pleasure to be a part of this unusual, very personal and beautiful day. Thank you for asking me along for the ride.
